Environmental Event at Dighomi Forest

On Thursday, September 23, at 6:30 p.m., Dighomi Park will host environmental event Let’s Save Dighomi Forest organized by the Open Society Georgia Foundation, Caucasus Environmental NGO Network (CENN), Georgian Young Lawyers' Association, Center for Human Rights and Ana Gabriadze's Initiative Group. The representatives of foreign embassies, international organizations, NGOs, Municipality and media, scientists, and architects will attend the event. Studio Monitor will show the film about Dighomi Forest.

Under the September 11, 2009 amendment to Tbilisi Development Master Plan, Tbilisi Sakrebulo changed status of several recreation zones and based on the project proposal from Tbilisi Mayor’s Office transformed them into social commercial and residential zones. Dighomi  Park, which has a great history and is distinguished for its unique flora, was also assigned the status of social commercial zone.

The event is aimed at raising public awareness on the problems that might lead to the destruction of Dighomi forest.
