Zhordania Obstetrician-Gynecology Institute Is Left without the Building

The educational-medical institution with a long history – Zhordania Obstetrician-Gynecology Institute is left without the building. The director of the Institute Archil Khomasuridze held a press conference on September 23rd regarding the selling of the building on the auction.

According to Khomasuridze, building and the land were sold on the auction on September 15th for 2.5 million lari. The new owner of the property is LLC “Sani.”
The director of Zhordania Institute states that the liquidation of the institute has not taken place yet and they’ll continue to work in future, unknown in which building exactly.

According to Khomasuridze, they had two offerings: in Dighomi, the first floor of the former railway hospital, 2000 square meter space, 1 square meter – 300 dollars, overall 600 000 lari; another offering – transfer to #13 Tevdore Priest St. the second floor of Todua Clinic, which is just carcass and approximately 1 million lari is needed for its repair. Zhordania Institute doesn’t have financial resources for this yet.

The director of institute states that the building was under the state ownership, and therefore, the state is authorized to govern it according to its will. But, still asks to leave the medical department in the building.

As it was said at the press conference, the institute needs to leave the building in 7 months after the auction. Obstetrician-gynecology institute functions on Kostava St. since 1952. Nowadays, there are 200 officials. Zhordania Institute is also the educational base for Tbilisi State University medical faculty students. For 28 years, the institute has been the consultative center of World Health Organization (WHO). As a result of the treatment of childless families, 840 children are born every year.

“No medical institution will be left under the open air. The Ministry of health is going to offer the alternative place to Zhordania Obstetrician-Gynecology Institute,” – stated the Minister of Labour, Health and Social Affairs at the briefing held at “Prime Time.”

As the minister stated, it’s important for the Ministry to continue the reform of the hospital sector that envisages building of 46 new hospitals along with the insurance business. Also, the investment projects are planned. The minister states that in all the bigs cities the population should be able to receive qualified medical assistance.
