Peasant Dissatisfied with the Vintage is Arrested

October 4, 2010
Akhmeta police officials arrested Otar Saakashvili, a peasant dissatisfied with the vintage from Akhmeta region, village Qistauri. Incident took place on October the 2nd. As the witnesses stated to Kakheti Information Center, Otar Saakashvili told the governor of Akhmeta municipality in Qistuari that the “Badagoni” wine factory was not producing grapes. Governor denied this fact and called the peasant a provocateur.

According to the witnesses, the governor cursed the peasant afterwards and called him a government’s enemy that resulted in the argument. After the argument, Akhmeta police officials arrested Otar Saakashvili. Akhmeta police didn’t make a comment on the fact of Otar Saakashvili’s arrest. It should be noted that the head of Akhmeta police Zura Pilashvili is the nephew of the region governor Koba Maisuradze.

According to the confirmed information, Natela Jashiashvili, judge of Telavi Regional Court passed five day administrative imprisonment against Otar Saakashvili. Kakheti Information Center has been trying to get acquainted with the resolution of Judge of Telavi Court since morning. Unfortunately the court didn’t disclose the information to journalists. According to the explanation of Nana Vasadze, the head of press service of Supreme Court of Georgia, court is not obliged to operatively provide information to the journalists. “Court is not attached to you. When I was a journalist, I waited for several days. You will also receive it if you wait,” – stated Vasadze.

The governor of Akhmeta municipality Koba Maisuradze denies the connection to Otar Saakashvili’s arrest. According to him, he has really been in Qistauri, but doesn’t have information about the arrest of the peasant.
