Georgia Protesting against the Transfer of Units of Abkhazia to Russia

October 6, 2010
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia spread a statement concerning the transfer of several units situated in the territory of Abkhazia to Russia’s ownership.

According to the statement of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, any agreement that regards the property situated in the sovereign territory of Georgia shall be agreed with Georgian government. Any agreement contradicting this rule is illegal and invalid.

It’s noted in the statement that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will provide information to the international concord that Russia is openly seizing the property situated in the sovereign territory of Georgia.

“This singlehandedly indicates and makes it clear once again why Russia needed to carry out aggression and occupation against Georgia and stage the recognition of “independence” of occupied territories,” – Ministry statement reads.

Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is expressing its protest on Russia’s conduct and requests from Russian side “to stop acts of robbery in the occupied territories of Georgia and instantly carry out its full de-occupation.”

The Prime Minister of Russia Vladimir Putin asked the Federal Service of Defense and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russian Federation to sign the agreement on transferring certain items to Russia’s ownership. The following property complexes are indicated in the draft of agreement: “Gagra” in the city of Gagra, “Miusera” in the settlement Miusera of Gudauta region and “Pitsunda” in the city of Bichvinta.
