Sighnaghi District Court Refused to Discuss Suits of Dismissed Teachers

October 22, 2010
Teachers dismissed from the public schools in Sighnaghi district protest the decision of the chairman of the district court Khvicha Kikalishvili. The chairman refused the teachers to accept their suits without preliminary payment. The court requested 100 GEL from each teacher.

The teachers state that people, who file labor complaints, are not entitled to pay the court fees. However, the court officials state they are supposed to discuss their suits according to the Civil Code and the minimal fee for similar cases is 100 GEL.

The dismissed teachers said that court does not allow them to protect their rights.

According to the non-governmental organization Human Rights Center, more than 200 teachers were dismissed from the public schools in Sighnaghi district.
