Controversy In the Representation of Abkhazian Authority

October 26, 2010
There are about 52 employees in the representation of the autonomous republic of Abkhazia in Zugdidi. Short time ago, the head of the public relation department Nona Ubilava was dismissed. According to her, she was dismissed because of her attempt to protect the IDP rights. Ubilava blames the deputy head of the representation Gela Kilasonia in her oppression and insulting. Gela Kilasonia is the classmate of the head of the government of Abkhazian Autonomous Republic Giorgi Baramia.

“In this representation officials think they can easily insult colleagues who subordinate them. Here, the rights of any employee, public servant or IDPs are breached very blatantly,” said Nona Ubilava.

She added that the legitimate representation of the government of Abkhazia in Samegrelo region works against the central government of Georgia. “I saw that the notion “IDP rights” did not exist in this institution. The relations in the representation do not rely on the quality of work – nobody works here. The members of Giorgi Baramia’s team supervise others and ban everybody to resist their illegal activities. I had argument with Baramia’s classmate Gela Kilasonia who insulted our colleagues. The representation of the government of Abkhazia is a branch which works against the government and has different policy. The deputy head of the presentation Gela Kilasonia is from Sokhumi and he calls the residents of Gali district traitors who apply to our office for help. I think it is not right. He calls traitors to those Georgian people who live on the occupied territories of Abkhazia. I could not stand similar attitude towards those people. I protested it and lost job as a result.”

Gela Kilasonia categorically denied the accusations of Ubilava. He said she was irresponsible person. According to him, Ubilava often missed job and often was late for job. Gela Kilasonia does not deny information about the controversy with Ubilava and added that it is not connected with the activities of the government of Abkhazia.

Nona Ubilava intends to appeal to the court against Kilasonia. She appeals to all international and nongovernmental organizations to study the situation in the representation of the government of Abkhazia in Zugdidi. The residents of Gali district should not be called traitors and to allow somebody to make decisions alone.
