Zaza Chakvetadze’s Attorney Appeals to European Court

October 27, 2010
The attorney of Zaza Chakvetadze - the member of the National Forum – Sulkhan Kapanadze stated he will appeal to the European Court of Human Rights by all means unless the Tbilisi Appeal Court revoke the arrest order and set Chakvetadze free.

According to the attorney, he will fight for Chakvetadze’s case to the end and render justice.
The Appeal Court has not received Chakvetadze’s suit yet. As the attorney clarified, according to the Criminal Procedural Code, the prisoner shall sign the suit. The suit was submitted to prison to be signed. Afterwards it will be brought to the Tbilisi City Court which will send it to the Appeal Court. The prison administration has two days to carry out all these procedures after the attorney submitted the suit. And the Appeal Court has 72 hours to make decision on the suit.

The attorney thinks that Chakvetadze was arbitrarily detained and imprisonment is also illegal preventive measure.

The judge of the Tbilisi City Court Miler Kharebava imposed two-month pretrial imprisonment on Chakvetadze. He is accused for resisting the police officer, which envisages imprisonment for five years.

Chakvetadze was detained on August 21 during the incident at the Lilo market.
