Brother of one of the leaders of the “Georgian Party” – Sozar Subari (former public defender) – Vakhtang Subeliani was charged under article 210 of the Criminal Code of Georgia at 1:00 am on October 28. This article envisages imprisonment for 7 years. Besides Subeliani, several employees of the Petrol Company “Amo” Ltd were arrested. They are accused in preparation of false invoices.

Prosecutor’s office speaks about the “damage of several million GEL” to the state budget. The charge against Vakhtang Subeliani envisages imprisonment for seven years.

Subeliani’s attorney Irma Chkadua said that the detainee has no connection with the crime. “Unclear accusation was imposed on Subeliani. Vakhtang did not occupy any position in the company which could have any relation with financial documents. He did not know how to prepare invoices and has nothing to do with those documents,” said Irma Chkadua and added that Subeliani was a manager at the “Amo” Ltd.

Meanwhile, ministry of internal affairs published secret recording of phone conversation against Vakhtang Subeliani where he speaks with the deputy director of the Ltd Vazha Lekishvili. The MIA alleges that Subeliani told the deputy director that clients applied to him for petrol and he wanted to register lower price in the documents. The testimony of a witness was also published who claims that Subeliani wrote lower price in the documents than he had paid for petrol.

Besides Subeliani, several other employees of the “Amo” Ltd were also detained. However, according to unofficial information accountant and director of the company were soon released.

News Agency Interpresnews reported that currently the company is closed and there is no security guard there.

Most part of the opposition connects Vakhtang Subeliani’s detention with the political activities of Sozar Subari and thinks that he is a political prisoner.
