Population of Khevischala Appeals to the President of Georgia for Help

November 3, 2010

Population of the village of Khevischala in Akhmeta district appeals to the president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili for help. The village has not been supplied with electricity for 20 years already. The locals state the road to the village is extremely damaged and during rain it gets completely isolated.

“We have visited the Akhmeta district administration several times but nobody paid attention to us. We even requested meeting with the single mandate MP of our district Petre Tsiskarishvili but he did not meet us. There is no road, no electricity, no gas, no nursery or public schools and outpatients here. We do not have a shop in the village either. Because of unbearable living conditions only 22 families remained in Khevischala. Those, who could live in some other place, abandoned the village. Some of them moved to Akhmeta and rented flats there,” said residents of Khevischala.

Akhmeta district deputy governor Vazha Naskidashvili said it is beyond the competence of the local authority to supply the village with electricity. He said this problem should be resolved by the JSC Kakheti Energy Distribution Company; but he added that since there are only several families in Khevischala, it is not priority for the company to spend funds on the supply of the village with the electricity.
