Tea Tutberidze: “School Directors Compelled to Resign at the Ministry of Education”

Official information about the resignation of the directors of eight public schools in Tbilisi has not been spread yet.

The ministry of education does not publish the list of the schools. However, they confirm that the directors really resigned though based on their personal application.

Executive director of the Association of School Directors Tea Tutberidze reported that school directors were compelled to write resignation letters to the tutorial councils at the ministry of education last night. Among them were director of the public school # 173 Mzia Giorgobiani, director of the public school # 161 Mikheil Mindadze, director of the public school # 151 Ekaterine Khutsishvili and directors of the public schools # 117, # 63 and #2. The information about other schools is not spread yet.

In parallel to it, Tea Tutberidze said that Maia Giorgadze was the only director who did not write the resignation letter n November 9. So, she was called back to the ministry of education on November 10. The school administration was already informed about Maia Giorgadze’s resignation.

Maia Giorgadze reported to the Interpresnews that she learned about her dismissal from news sources. She said she was not going to resign. Giorgadze clarifies that her pupils did not participate in the protest demonstration on November 9 at all. However, she added that school directors shall not be responsible for pupils’ behavior.

Director of public school # 161 Mikheil Mindadze neither denied nor confirmed information about resignation in his interview with the broadcasting company Rustavi 2.

“I am surprised with the noise caused by my resignation. I have resigned from many positions before but nobody ever cared about it then,” said Mikheil Mindadze.

The information about dismissal of eight school directors was spread on November 9. Before that, the pupils of those schools took part in the rallies where they protested diploma examinations.

In parallel to it, the minister of education and science Dimitry Shashkin stated that the ministry had not fired the directors of eight public schools in Tbilisi.

“It was personal decision of the school directors and the ministry did not participate in those procedures,” said Dimitry Shashkin when he visited public school # 23.

He added that the directors personally filed resignation letters to the tutorial councils of public schools and the council members satisfied their applications.
