Large Family without Social Allowance

November 11, 2010

The family of Abashidzes lives in the village of Koreti in Akhmeta district. They have nine children but do not get social allowance. Malkhaz Abashidze reported to the Kakheti News Center that the allowance was stopped after their ninth child was born.

“There are 11 members in our family. We were resettled in Koreti from Adjara 6 years ago. Our only income was social allowance which was stopped three months ago when our ninth child was born. We have been buying bread, washing powder, macaroni and oil for granted for the last three months. We need three-four sacks of bread-wheat per month and all our social allowance was spent on it. Since we do not receive the allowance, we live in extremely hard situation. Most time we are hungry,” said Malkhaz Abashidze.

Representatives of the Akhmeta office of the Social Agency said they do not know when the social allowance will be renewed for Abashidzes.

“The agent has already visited their family but the points have not been calculated yet. Consequently, we do not know whether they will receive allowance or not,” said acting head of the social agency Ana Gogoladze.
