“House of Free Opinion” Requests Resignation of Dimitry Shashkin

November 15, 2010
“House of Free Opinion” requests the resignation of the Minister of Education and Science Dimitry Shashkin.

The head of the House of Free Opinion Bakur Bakuradze stated at a press-conference that Dimitry Shashkin has not done a good job as manager of the education system. And since he has occupied this position, the education level of the pupils has lowered.

Bakuradze pointed to the minister’s failed educational reforms as an example of the lowered education levels in the country. This failure is also demonstrated by the low index of education in the National Exams.

Bakur Bakuradze also placed blame on Dimitry Shashkin for the repression of school directors, teachers and pupils. The head of the House of Free Opinion stated that this is the first time in Georgian history where school children have held demonstrations in order to protest the educational reforms.

Mr. Bakuradze said the word “bailiff” means a man with a stick, and by establishing a bailiff system in schools, the ministry of education wants to turn the public schools into a juvenile prison in order to control the future generation.

The House of Free Opinion intends to hold large-scale protests and demonstrations as a means to publicly request the minister’s resignation and will consult with various political parties and non-governmental organizations on the issue.
