Twelfth Graders Are Blaming Government in the Attempt of Intimidation

November 15, 2010
Twelfth graders from several Tbilisi public schools are blaming government in the attempt of intimidation. As Revaz Revazishvili, the twelfth grader of #19 public school stated yesterday, he was met by several individuals dressed as policemen after the protest rally. They brought him to the 4th police department and threatened him. Policemen warned him not to participate in the protest rally or then they would be transferred to Samtredia boarding school where there are “losers.”

According to his statement, yesterday in the morning, one more twelfth grader Vazha Meladze stated in a conversation with them that was summoned to the police department and threatened with the exclusion from school.

According to Rezo Revazishvili, twelfth grader of #49 public school Davit Tsomarishvili was also threatened. He was threatened by the school principal. As he stated, Tsomarishvili and Vazha Meladze are the members of initiative group that organizes the protest rallies of 12th graders. According to Revazishvili, not only the students, but their parents were threatened as well.

He states that they will go on with the protest rallies. The next protest rally is planned for Friday, at the building of Parliament. According to Revaz Revazishvili, only 30 12th graders came at the protest rally planned yesterday unlike the previous protest rally where 1000 12th graders participated. The reason named by Revazishvili was that bailiffs closed the doors and the students were not allowed to go to protest rally.

According to him, about 70 schools participate in the protest rallies and they will go on with the rallies until their requests are fulfilled.

Eleventh graders from several public schools are requesting the cancellation of 8 exams, including physics, chemistry and Georgaphy.

Revaz Revazishvili held the press conference with the leader of November 7th Jaba Jishkariani. It should be noted that Revazishvili is also the member of November 7.

Jaba Jishkariani stated that November 7th expresses its support to the protest rallies. It is not going to join the rally but will conduct its monitoring and in case the rights of 12th graders are violated, they will join the process
