The Human Rights Center Calls Upon Chief Prosecutor of Georgia to Respond to the Incident

The Human Rights Center is concerned by the intimidation of the director of the Telavi based independent TV-Company “Tanamgzavri.”

Reportedly, on November 14, at about 9:00 pm, officer of the special unit Gela Chvritidze attacked and injured the director of the TV-Company Enry Kobakhidze in the village of Pshaveli in Telavi district; Kobakhidze was at his relative’s wedding party in the village. Enry Kobakhidze confirmed in his interview with the representatives of the Human Rights Center that before the incident, Chvritidze tried to oppress him and interfere in the editorial activities of the independent TV-Company.

Although the information about the incident has already been spread by various media sources, the Telavi district office of the MIA has not interrogated the witnesses of the incident yet.

The Human Rights Center calls upon the chief prosecutor of Georgia Murtaz Zodelava to personally control the investigation process and ensure security of the director of the TV-Company “Tanamgzavri”.

The Human Rights Center calls upon the Public Defender of Georgia, Georgian media and international human rights organizations, administrations of the independent media-organizations to adequately respond to the wounding of the TV-Company director.
