People Cannot Enter Erisimedi Village Without Special Pass

December 1, 2010

The Georgian frontier police prohibited traveling to Erisimedi village in Sighnaghi district at Georgian-Azerbaijan border without special pass. The restriction does not work for the permanent residents of Erisimedi village.

The Georgian frontier policemen issue the special pass at the checkpoint before entering the village. The Georgian checkpoint is located one kilometer away from the entrance to the village.

Special restrictions are introduced for journalists. The frontier police officers do not allow the correspondents to take photos or videos in the village even if they have the special pass.

The Kakheti News Center was reported at the Georgian Frontier Police Department that half village is situated on the disputable territory and registration became necessary for the traveling to Erisimedi.

Eco-migrants from Ajara are most population of the Erisimedi village. At the moment, Erisimedi village officially belongs to Sighgnaghi district and is under Georgian jurisdiction.

Kakheti News Center will soon publish a journalistic investigation about Georgian-Azerbaijan borders.
