“The Georgian Party” for Shashkin’s Resignation

December 1, 2010

“The Georgian Party” requests resignation of the Minister of Education Dimitry Shashkin. The chairman of the party Sozar Subari said that teachers and director of Zugdidi Public School # 4 were dismissed because the video recordings of the minister’s meeting with the English teachers, invited from abroad, where were published.

Subari said Shashkin went to the school to meet the English language teacher Thomas Fletcher after his pornography-like photos were published in November and the parents had harsh reaction on it. Fletcher had uploaded those on his page on “Facebook” and it was available for everyone to see.

Kkakha Mikaia presented the video-recording of the meeting to the society, and it resulted into dismissal of the school director and six teachers at the school. Subari said the pupils had given the photos to Kakha Mikaia.

The chairman of “the Georgian Party” thinks that repressions against teachers have become usual. Recently several directors of public school were dismissed because in Tbilisi because of protest demonstration of the 12 graders.

Subari said it is useless to appeal to the law enforcement bodies to start investigation; so they petitioned to the international organizations to protect teachers and pupils.

The leader of “the Georgian Party” said the head of the educational system should not intimidate and oppress pupils and teachers. He said they would do their best to liberate the education system from terrorism.
