Besarion Aplia:”The Negotiation Should Start and Representatives of Georgian Church Should Come to Abkhazia”

December 10, 2010

The negotiation should start between Georgian and Abkhaz peoples and the representatives of the Georgian Orthodox Church should visit Abkhazia. Besarion Aplia the so-called leader of the Sokhumi de-facto eparchy reported to “Interpresnews”.

Aplia thinks Georgian and Abkhaz people can find way to reconciliation. “How two brothers should not find a way to talk to each other? I am sure it is possible to find the way out of this situation-it is love, respect towards people and generosity. We should permanently be looking for this way instead blaming each other in something. It will not do us good. Nobody speaks about love and about it how we should live in the future. Nobody has ever raised this question and I have done it - how should we live in the future. Are we going to continue humiliating each other like this? How can we survive in this way?”

Aplia also thinks that both sides should ruminate about the brother-killing war. “We should think who has started this brother-killing war and who has committed this all. Abkhazia and Georgia are like two brothers who always defended each other. The kingdoms of Abkhazia and Georgia-the two neighboring states always fought together against the common enemy like Arabs or Turkish. Today we are enemies to each other and I think it should not continue for a long time. It is not right. We should discuss everything truly and fairly. I think there are a lot of honest people who know the truth”.

He also thinks that the Orthodox Church is the way to safety for every person, notwithstanding he is Georgian or Abkhaz.

“We should be very careful with such sensitive issues. I think his Holiness knows everything well. In current situation Abkhazia and Abkhaz people cannot be treated like this. The relationship should be somehow changed. I do not know how it should happen, but his Holiness definitely knows it better”, Besarion Aplia states

He was asked whether they will host representatives of the Georgian Orthodox Church in Abkhazia and Aplia answered: “It is another question. “

“They should come, we must pray, we should love each other. We should discuss the issue of their visit and negotiate about it. We should not lead ourselves into the deadlock. We should look for the way out which will save us. Nowadays, we act like barbarians. It is not normal”, Aplia said.
