Ethnic Ossetians in the village Lapniani are Left without the Land

December 24, 2010
The ethnic Ossetians from the village Lapniani of Lagodekhi region are blaming local government in the indifferce. As the village residents stated to Kakheti Informatio Center, they are left without the agricultural lands as a result of swindle.

According to the village residents, in 1999, the agricultural firm Imedi (Hope) in Lapniani brought poison chemicals of 21 000 US dollar value. The poison chemicals were given to the residents on the condition of postponement payment. In return, the agricultural firm Imedi made an agreement with the Joint-Stock Company Pichkhibogiri that was created on the basis of collective farm by the residents. According to Lapniani residents, nobody gave them poision chemicals, thus they did not pay money. Later, as it turned out the village was left without the land.

In the former land of Pichkibogiri, Imedi cultivated oil garden. The company is disputing on those territories where the village residents have cultivated vineyard or are taking harvest.

Despite the numerous attempts of Kakheti Information Center, it could not contact the representatives of Imedi. The governor of Lagodekhi Dimitri Loladze and the deputy governor of Kakheti Giorgi Sibashvili noted that they are not acquainted with the problem of Lapniani residents in detail. As the procurator of Lapniani territorial organ Mamuka Khidasheli stated with us in a telephone conversation, some Adeiashvili from the village Mtisdziri of Kvareli region is supervising the oil garden. We could not contact Adeishvili.
