Special Statement of the TV - Radio Company "Trialeti”

December 24, 2010
The national broadcasting companies did not covere the meeting of the representatives of the TV - Radio Company “Trialeti” with the U.S. ambassador. Several media outlets reported that the goal of John Bass’s visit in Gori was general situation in Georgian media in their letter "Unbalanced Media”; thus they enshrined the expressed solidarity of the US Ambassador with the TV-channel “Trialeti”.

The aim of Ambassador’s visit in "Trialeti" was to get information about recent increased oppression on the TV station from the government.

It is not the first occasion when national TV Companies "Rustavi 2", "Imedi" and "Public Broadcasting” avoid covering the oppression on “Trialeti”.

While the film-crew of the TV Company “Trialei” was beaten by police officers during the dismantling of the Stalin’s statue, the local correspondents of the national TV-Companies were also at the place. However, they even did not turn on their cameras to record the physical assault of the film-crew of the “Trialeti-TV”. In addition, despite several invitations, they did not cover the press-conference of the director general of the TV-Company who was beaten by police officers.

We believe that media, particularly Public Broadcasting Company, should work for people and not for the government.
