NGOs Demanding Investigation of Gachechiladze-Burjanadze Scandal from Public Ombudsman Eka Beselia

December 28, 2010
Part of NGOs is demanding investigation of the Gachechiladze-Burjanadze scandal from Eka Beselia, the public ombudsman of the People’s Assembly.

Nana Kakabadze, leader of the NGO - Former Political Prisoners for Human Rights, has already sent a letter to Eka Beselia. Kakabadze says Beselia should set up a commission to study the Gachechiladze-Burjanadze scandal.

“Before the interview was published in the newspaper Asaval-Dasavali, Georgian society was already curious about this issue. They are curious about the rigged elections of January 5, 2008 as well and Nino Burjanadze has all necessary documents to prove it. A commission shall be set up which will investigate similar facts and answers all questions of the society.  The commission should talk to Nino Burjanadze, Levan Gachechiladze and any person related to the case’, Kakabadze said.

According to her, despite the fact that Eka Beselia has suspended her authority at the executive board member of the People’s Assembly, she has not left the post of the public ombudsman yet. Kakabadze decided to appeal to Beselia after Public Defender of Georgia Giorgi Tughushi ignored the above-mentioned scandal.
