Three Businessmen Committed Suicide in Kakheti in 2010

December 30, 2010
The deputy director of Kindzmarauli Marani (Kindzmarauli wine store), 47-year-old Archil Sesiashvili from the village Gavazi committed suicide several days ago. As the residents of the village Gavazi stated to Kakheti Information Center the reason of the suicide was the violations detected by the Tax Inspection in the company for which it was fined.

Kindzmarauli Marani director Dimitri Lebanidze categorically denies this information. According to him, the Tax Inspection never detected the violations in the company and no fining has taken place.

According to Kvareli Municipality Council member Valeri Varadashvili from the village Gavazi, several days before the suicide Archil Sesiashvili had visited him and asked to ascertain certain detail concerning the lands. “But, as I remember the money to be paid did not exceed 70-80 GEL,” – stated Varadashvili. According to him, Archil Sesiasvhili was mature person and did not have health issues.

It should be noted that three businessmen committed suicide in Kakheti in 2010. Before Archil Sesiashvili’s case, one of the owners of the wine company Shumi Otar Piranishvili and of the wholesale store Delpini Paata Papalashvili committed suicide.

In all three cases the reason of the suicide was named to be the entrance of Tax Inspection in the companies. After the Delpini owner committed suicide, it was confirmed that the Tax Inspection had fined the wholesale store by 320 thousand GEL.

The Regional Center of Telavi Revenue Service does not comment on the facts of the businessmen suicides.

“Some other people might have committed suicide as well. The government has nothing to do with it. Unfortunately, suicides have become common. However, it does not mean that the government has to comment on this. There might be more cases of it. People are making decision on the suicide by themselves that is very bad,” – noted the deputy Governor of Kakheti region Giorgi Sibashvili.
