Foreign Ministry Eliminated Tedo Japaridze’s Diplomatic Passport and Made Him Technical Illegal Person

January 20, 2011
Georgia’s Ex-Foreign Minister Tedo Japaridze calls diplomatic passport elinination by Georgia’s MFA a tragicomic fact.

As the Technical Director of the Black Sea International Research Center Tedo Japaridze reported to the InterPressNews, Georgian side sent special notes to the BSEC-member countries regarding the issue on December 31, 2010.

“It is all so tragicomic. Georgia’s MFA annulled my spouse’s and my diplomatic passports on December 31 and nowadays we have had “technically illegal” status in Greece. I do not know the exact cause for the decision. Nobody has called me from the Ministry concerning the issue”, Japaridze stated.

He alleges that the voiding of his passport by the Ministry is a part of the campaign conducted against him.

“First, Imedi TV aired a semi-libel report about me, declaring that I am a pro-Russian Georgian diplomat. Later, Deputy FA Minister Nino Kalandadze condemned me for my scientific background. Then they annulled the passports altogether. This is the part of the plan that aims to compel me to flee from the country before May. The logic behind it is that they want me to leave Greece till February”, Japaridze added.

Georgia’s government rejected Japaridze’s candidacy for the post of Technical Director of ISBSS in fall of 2010 stating that the latter had no scientific background.

Despite Georgia’s government critics, the Board of Directors prolonged his term till May 2011. InterPressNews will offer an interview with Tedo Japaridze as well.

Moreover, no comment has been made in Georgia’s MFA regarding the issue.
