Prisoners on Hunger-Strike in Jail # 6

January 21, 2011
The mother of a prisoner informed the Human Rights Center that four inmates of the jail # 6 have been on hunger-strike for 15 days already.

Irakli Kashia, Irakli Shanidze, Manuchar Shanadze and Mamuka Lomtadze refused to get prison food in protest.

According to the statement of Nona Kashia – the mother of Irakli Kashia, the prisoners protest impartial sentence and impartial investigation on their cases. They also request better conditions in prison.

“The prisoners are under permanent physical abuse and they protest inhuman conditions in the jail. Nobody pays attention to them though they have been on hunger-strike for such a long time already. Nobody has asked them what they request and why they are on hunger-strike,” said Nona Kashia.

She added that the prisoners are not going to stop their protest until somebody pays attention to them and listen to their complaints.
