Patients of Psycho-Neurological Hospital in Adjara Cannot Enjoy Their Pensions

January 28, 2011
The relatives misappropriate the pension of several patients of the psycho-neurological hospital in autonomous republic of Adjara. Part of patients, who lack the family environment, has not received their pensions for months and even for years.

“My sisters receive my pension. I live in Ozurgeti district. The police brought me here long ago. My sisters have not visited me yet and have not brought anything to me”, a patient of the psycho-neurological hospital complained.

“I have been here for three years and have not received my pension yet. My sister used to get my pension before I was placed in this hospital. Probably, they will give me the accumulated pension”, another patient hopes.

The director of the Adjara Psycho-Neurological Hospital Amiran Mikava said in some cases the relatives of their patients misappropriate their pensions. However, there are patients who have guardians and they buy necessary things and products according to the patient’s request.

According to the law, if a member of a family cannot take care of the disabled person, they should be taken under guardianship. If guardians breach the rights of the disabled people, corresponding institution-social agency should deprive the person from the right of guardianship. Nowadays, social agents do not take care of the patients of the psycho-neurological hospital of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara yet.
