Ministry of IDPs from the Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refugees Finds Statement of the Amnesty International One-Sided

February 1, 2011
The Ministry of IDPs from the Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refugees evaluated the statement of the international organization “Amnesty International” as one-sided. The ministry published a statement in reply to the statement of the international organization.

The ministry appreciates the interest of the Amnesty International in the resettlement process of the IDPs in Georgia but expresses its concern that the statement of the AI is one-sided, impartial and unfair.

“According to their statement we concluded that the organization Amnesty International does not have full information about the resettlement process. As soon as the process started, the Ministry (as it was agreed during the phone-conversation) was waiting for the organization members to send questions to the Ministry by e-mail. However, the Ministry did not receive any questions and the statement was prepared without considering the position of the Ministry. We are particularly concerned by the fact because we had effective and close cooperation with the organization and the Ministry has provided them with detailed information about ongoing or planned procedures,” the statement of the Ministry.

In addition, the Ministry hopes, similar fact will not happen in future and the organization will continue fruitful cooperation with the Ministry. “We are still waiting for their questions and we are sure they will have full knowledge of the ongoing process in the country after we provide them with the information and it will be reflected in their reports too,” the Ministry stated.
