Boris Chochiev: The Georgian Government Complicates Border-Crossing Procedures for Georgian Citizens

February 18, 2011
The Georgian government creates obstacles for Georgian citizens living in Akhalgori district to cross the border with so-called South Ossetia – the de-facto representative in post conflict regulation process of the separatist leader of South Ossetia Boris Chochiev stated at the briefing.

“The government of the South Ossetia created checkpoints where people can cross the border through simplified procedures. In Akhalgori district, the residents of 56 villages can travel to Georgia with simplified procedures. In addition, the residents of Samo village in Java district and the residents of one village in Tskhinvali district can also enjoy simplified procedures,” Chochiev said.

He added that instead welcoming their initiative, Georgian governmental officials hang up notification on the border where they requested residents of the occupied terrotiores to submit applications within ten days with list of documents.

“That means, Georgian government complicates border crossing procedures,” said Chochiev
