March 1, 2011
The hearing on the international drug cartel case is starting on March 2nd in Kutaisi Appellate Court.

According to Lali Aptsiauri, the lawyer of the convicts, the detainees are appealing against the decision of Poti City Court according to which Nugzar Bochorishvili (under pursuit), Anastasia Zautashvili, Roman Musemiani, Giorgi Chechelashvili and Tengiz Gurchiani are imposed 30-year imprisonment, and Mevlud Svanidze – 24-year imprisonment.

The lawyers are requesting the abolishment of the corresponding verdict and a discharge of the convicts. According to Lali Aptsiauri, the process will be attended by international organizations and the representatives of diplomatic bodies.

On June 2, 2010, as a result of special operations conducted in Kutaisi and Tbilisi five individuals were detained with the charge of international drug cartel. Nugzar Bochorishvili was stated to be under pursuit.

According to MIA information, Greek citizen Nugzar Bochorishvili residing in Spain regularly sent scrap-iron from Panama, Peru and Columbia to a group of detainees. Big amount of cocaine was being smuggled inside the loads with the aim of its distribution in international market. The loads were arriving in Poti under the name of Anastasia Zautashvili’s cousin – Roman Musemiani. According to MIA, the “thief in law” Shakro Kalashov was involved in the drug business. He contacted the criminal authority residing in Georgia Tengiz Gurchiani and asked him to assist Bochorishvili. Gurchiani met with the criminals who desired to intimidate Bochorishvili and requested the immediate stop of pressure. The criminals agreed to do so.

The corresponding group was under operative surveillance of MIA. They were detained on June 2nd. 1 700 000 EUROs buried in the yard of Mevlud Svanidze and 50 000 EUROs in Anastasia Zautashvili’s apartment were confiscated.
