Knesset Speaker Confirms that Bakradze’s Visit to Israel was Delayed Due to the Arrest of Israeli Businessmen

March 15, 2011

An Israeli Knesset Speaker confirmed  the delay of Davit Bakradze’s visit to Israel is related to the arrest of two Israeli businessmen.

According to local media, “The chancellery of Knesset speaker Reuven Rivlin, confirmed the fact that the temporary delay of Davit Bakradze’s visit to Israel was due to the disagreement between Jerusalem and Tbilisi over the Fuchs case.”

“The friends of the businessmen are sure that the charges against him are illegitimate and the Georgian government put Fuchs in a hopeless situation. This week, the head of the Georgian Parliament Davit Bakradze, was supposed to go to Israeli and visit the Knesset. Knesset speaker Reuven Rivlin asked Davit Bakradze to temporarily delay his visit and explained that due to internal and external political reasons, it would be better to postpone the visit.”

Rivlin also stated that “many Israeli citizens are displeased with the trial of Ron Fuchs and that was one more incentive for postponing the visit,” – reports Israeli media and refers to the statement of Rivlin press service as a source of information.
