Five-Member Famili of Rekhviashvilis Left Without Social Aid

March 16, 2011
Despite extreme poverty, the five-member family of Rekhviashvilis in Leliani village in Lagodekhi district does not get social aid from the state. Commissary of the Leliani Territorial Entity Nino Kapanadze said one of the family-members does not have an ID and the entire family cannot get the allowance for that reason.

“Although they are very poor, the social agency stopped giving allowance to them seven months ago. Children cannot go to school either,” said Kapanadze.

The representatives of the Lagodekhi office of the Social Agency clarified that it is beyond their competence to issue IDs on the impoverished people.

The Civil Activity Center will provide legal assistance for the Rekhviashvilis. The Center representative Marine Zardiashvili said they have already requested information about the family and tomorrow they are going to the village to assess social-economical conditions of the Rekhviashvilis on the place. “After studying their case, which will take only several days, we will recommend the district administration to repeatedly evaluate the social conditions of the family based on their solicitation. Our lawyers will assist the family members to get legal documents,” said Marine Zardiashvili.

Civil Activity Center implements the project “Advocacy of People Beyond Poverty Level in Kakheti Region” with the financial support of the “East-West Management Institute.”
