Grigol Vashadze: “Bakradze’s Postponed Visit in Israeli to Influence the Relation Between Two Countries”

March 16, 2011
“Davit Bakradze’s postponed visit in Israeli will influence the relation of the two countries as much as the visit could develop our further cooperation,” foreign minister of Georgia Grigol Vashadze told the Interpresnews.

Vashadze added that every sovereign state has right to host the leaders of another state or not.

“This visit was not canceled; it was postponed. As for the reason, I have read six different reasons for the delay in Israeli newspapers starting from the busy schedule of the speaker to the upcoming negotiations with Palestine,” said Vashadze.

Georgian and Israeli sides make different assessments of the postponed visit of Davit Bakradze, chairman of the parliament of Georgia, in Israeli. According to the Georgian Parliament, the visit was postponed for two reasons: more precisely, Israeli plans negotiations with Palestine; in parallel to it Knesset starts inner political debates in near future. For these reasons, the local government could not host the speaker of the Georgian parliament properly and they postponed his visit.

Online newspaper newsru.co.il reported that chancellery of Knesset speaker Reuven Rivlin, confirmed the fact that the temporary delay of Davit Bakradze’s visit to Israel was due to the disagreement between Jerusalem and Tbilisi over the Fuchs case.”

Israeli businessmen Rony Fuchs and Ze'ev Frenkiel were detained in Batumi in October of 2010. They are accused in offering bribe to local governmental official.
