Europe will close a door for Georgia unless Georgia successfully fulfills the agreements on readmission and easier travel arrangements. This statement has been made by EU representative Philip Dimitrov at the presentation of the project Target Initiative for Georgia funded by the EU at the Radisson hotel today.
According to Dimitrov, Georgian citizens’ presence in Europe should be legal notwithstanding the easier travel arrangements.
“The visa and Readmission agreements are two sides of a medal. One cannot be successfully fulfilled without the other. Otherwise, Georgia will face a closed door from Europe. The door will remain closed unless concrete steps are made. The easier travel arrangements will not bring changes immediately. It is necessary that people satisfy certain legal norms. Each citizen’s presence in Europe should be legal notwithstanding the easier travel arrangements,” – Dimitrov said.
The easier travel arrangements and Readmission Agreement came into force since March 1st.
