Akhasheni Population Held a Protest Rally

March 22, 2011

The population of the village Akhasheni of Gurjaani region held a protest rally. According to the protest rally participants, joint-stock company Kakheti Energo Distribution has imposed additional 60 GEL on each subscriber apart from the electricity fee.  As a result of a refusal to pay the additional fees, about hundred families have been cut off electricity.

“It is the fifth day now the electricity has been cut of to three districts of the village Akhasheni. 60 GEL was unfairly imposed on each family. We could not pay this money. They are robbing us. The district numerator has been busted and they told us the electricity will not be provided until we pay money. Why do not they investigate what happened to the numerator? We called the energo ombudsman, but he does not answer our calls. We requested meeting with the local government, but they refused to meet,” – state the protest rally participants.

Representative of Kakheti Energo Distribution Service of Media and Public Relations Zhana Didebashvili denies the accusations of Akhashani residents. “These are not additional fees. The receipt reflects the fees calculated by the district numerator,” – stated Didebashvili.

If the electricity provision does not resume, Akhashani residents are going to block Telavi-Tbilisi auto highway.
