More Victims of Domestic Violence Apply for Help

Head of Telavi office of the Georgian Young Lawyers Association Marekh Mgaloblishvili said more victims of domestic violence apply to their office for help. She said the women become victims of violence not only from husbands but from their parents-in-law.

“Not only husbands but parents-in-law also abuse the women. Mostly, the women have injuries – bruises on their bodies. Recently, more victims apply to us; they are mostly women. About 4-5 people visit our office every day; there are cases of the attempted murder, physical damage and others,” said Marekh Mgaloblishvili.

According to the study of the National Network to End Domestic Violence, the highest level of domestic violence was observed in Kakheti region throughout Georgia. 92% of the interviewed people complained about violence in their families; 86% complained about physical harassment against them; 67% permanently expects attack from family members and 63% of them were raped by husbands; husbands harassed and sexually abused 29% of women during pregnancy.
