Population of Village Kuchatani Deprived of Pastures

April 19, 2011

Population of the village Kuchatani of the Kvareli Region requests that the pastures are returned to  their possession. As the Kakheti Informaiton Center was informed, the village had 37 hectare pastures in the so-called “Naionjrebi.” The government alienated the pastures secretly from the population.

According to the residents of Kuchatani, they found out about the alienation of the pastures, after the private owners started making the pond and prohibited the population to drive away cattle.

“The village does not have pasture anymore. Our only source of income is cattle raising. We numerous times addressed the local government for help, but nobody pays attention. Kvareli Governor kicked us out of his office. He threatened that if we continue protesting, he will inform the patrol and they will take relevant measures. We wanted to meet with the majority deputy, but he restrains to arrive in Kvareli and meet with the people,” – stated the residents of Kuchatani.

According to Gela Gogilashvili, the procurator of the territorial body of the village Kuchatani, there is a dispute between the population and the owners of the disputed land.

The residents of Kuchatati are going to hold a protest rally in the nearest future with the request of returning pastures to their possession.
