Opposition Eight Met Diplomatic Corps

April 21, 2011
On April 20, Georgian Opposition Eight met the members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia in the UN Office Tbilisi.

“The Eight” shared their proposals about the improvement of election environment in the country with foreign diplomats and requested them to actively involve the election reform process.

Irakli Chikovani from the Georgian political party Free Democrats, one of the Opposition Eight, said international community unprecedentedly supports the essential changes in the election environment in Georgia.

Chikovani hopes active involvement of foreign partners will compel the government of Georgia to take adequate steps in this process. He added the process shall finish by the end of May. At the moment, the negotiations between the government and the opposition on the election law have suspended.

Almost every leader of the diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia participated in the meeting; among them was US Ambassador John Bass; Irakli Chikovani, expert Vakhtang Khmaladze and Mamuka Katsitadze represented the Opposition Eight at the meeting.
