Center for Civil Activities sues the head of the Kakheti regional coordination center of the Social Agency Levan Akhalauri. The non-governmental organization blames him in blocking the public information and requests disciplinary punishment for him.
Representative of the NGO, Marine Zardiashvili said she had requested the document – the list of the employed people – from the Kakheti office of the Social Agency; the list became basis to cease social allowance for hundreds of socially disabled families in the region.
“More than 3 thousand people are on the list; according to the document those people work in various organizations and simultaneously receive allowances. For example, 77-year-old woman works as a lawyer for the forest agency; 82-year-old woman is employed at the rescue service center. Extremely poor family with five children, who feed their children with corn and bran, lost their allowance because the mother was employed at the LagodekhAutoGas Company. These people could not provide the documents to the agency to prove that they are unemployed and they have not received the allowances for several months. We requested the list from the Agency and wanted to assist them in improving the document but the Agency did not send us the list,” said Marine Zardiashvili.
The Center for Civil Activities implements the project with the support of the East-West Management Institute which aims to advocate people below poverty level in Kakheti region.
The Information Center of Kakheti could not obtain the comments from Levan Akhalauri on the suit against the Agency. Akhalauri does not respond the phone-calls from the Information Center of Kakheti.
