Levan Gudadze on Hunger-Strike

April 29, 2011
Georgian journalist Levan Gudadze started a hunger-strike in front of the Swiss Embassy in Russian Federation at 12:00 am on April 27. Gudadze requests return to Georgia with the hunger-strike.

“In 2008-2009 because of my professional (journalistic) activities I became target of “unpleasant” interest of the Georgian special forces. As a result, due to my personal and family members’ safety, I moved to South Ossetia on September 3, 2009.

“On September 11, 2009 the representatives of the Russian Special Forces took us to the Russian Federation after active involvement and oppression on them.

“In Russia, I had to decline several proposals of the Russian Federal Bureau (FSB) to cooperate with them; relatively I cannot continue living peacefully and safely in Russia,” clarified Levan Gudadze.

The journalist believes that in Georgia he and his family will feel safer than in Russia; however, he has been unsuccessfully requesting return to Georgia for 18 months.

“I have to use extreme form of protest to attract the attention of the official Tbilisi in order to return to Georgia with my family,” said Levan Gudadze.
