Zaza Khatiashvili Requests Investigation of Intimidation of the Lawyer

May 3, 2011

Chairman of the Georgian Bar Association Zaza Khatiashvili petitioned to the Chief Prosecutor of Georgia to investigate the intimidation of the lawyer Vladimer Tabaghua.

The Bar Association notified to the Interpresnews that lawyer Vladimer Tabaghua has appealed to their office and reported them about the torture of the prisoner Tariel Sakvarelidze by the director of jail hospital Vazha Tskhvediani.

The lawyer was leaving the Gldani Prison #8 with the explanation letter of his client, prisoner Sakvarelidze, who was beaten in the custody when the security guard of the prison arbitrarily detained the lawyer to seize the letter from him.

Zaza Khatiashvili accused the Chief Prosecutor of Georgia of inactivity and calls upon him to promptly investigate the incident; otherwise the Bar Association will take radical measures to protest the illegal restriction of the lawyer’s freedom.
