MP Requests To Immediately Investigate the Prisoner’s Death

May 4, 2011

MP from the opposition party Dimitry Lortkipanidze requests the prosecutor’s office to immediately investigate the death of the prisoner Tedliashvili.

The MP stated at the plenary session of the parliament that 45 prisoners have died in Georgian penitentiary institutions in 2011 and Tedliashvili is the last dead prisoner on the list so far; he died in a suspicious situation.

The MP added the lawyer of the prisoner had reported several days before that his client was under oppression and somebody planned to kill him.

Dimitry Lortkipanidze hopes the Chief Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia will finally have kind will to immediately investigate the death fact.

Dimitry Lortkipanidze noted that Tedliashvili was suffocated by a medical bandage; though the lawyer claims his client did not need the bandage in prison.

Lortkipanidze said the above-mentioned circumstance is very suspicious and the prosecutor’s office shall pay attention to it too.

Dimitry Lortkipanidze also requested to immediately discuss the Public Defender’s 2010 Report at the Parliament; he added that human rights and legal committees of the parliament should discuss the report together.

According to the MP, those committees shall prepare a draft-conclusion which will be later discussed at the plenary session of the parliament of Georgia.
