“They Brought Pipes for Gasification before Elections but Took Them Away After Elections As They Were Borrowed”

May 5, 2011

President’s promise “Gas supply in every village” has not been realized in Akhasheni village yet. The villagers said several days before the parliamentary elections in 2008 and municipal elections in 2010, the local officials brought pipes in Akhasheni center and promised people to supply their village with gas; however, after the elections they took the pipes away.

“They used to bring pipes before elections and as soon as elections are over, they take the pipes away – saying they had borrowed them,” said the local people.

Kakheti Region Deputy Governor Giorgi Sibashvili said Company “Socar Georgia Gas Kakheti” has agreed the gasification schedule with the Ministry of Energy and Kakheti regional administration and the Company implements activities according to this schedule.

“At any rate, nobody has taken the pipes away from Akhasheni village. I have not brought anything there; the Socar Company has brought them and Akhasheni will be supplied with gas when their turn comes,” said Sibashvili.
