World Bank Requests Urgent Measures for Ensuring Safety at Vaziani-Gombori-Telavi Road

World Bank estimates the state of Vaziani-Gombroi-Telavi road. It calls on the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastracture and Road Department to continue the constant monitoring of the road and take urgent measures to ensure the safety.

“The contractors are obligated to preserve the road. At the end of the contract, the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastracture and the Road Department of Georgia will continue cooperation with a new contractor to take the relevant measures on time. The contractor will continue the constant monitoring of landslide risk zones and will ensure that the warning signs are constructed and the restoration works are conducted in order to maximally keep the traffic safety. World Bank will continue monitoring and cooperation with Georgian government and will support its input,” – reads the statement.

Georgian President opened Vaziani-Gombori “rehabilitated” road seven months ago. According to the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastracture, the total cost of Kakheti Regional Roads Development project is 37.5 million dollars the cost of Vaziani-Gombroi-Telavi road is 24 million US dollars.

The transportation is dangerous at Vaziani-Gombroi-Telavi road. The landslide destroyed some parts of the road. There are no warning sighns in certain parts. Some parts of the road may be torn away and cause auto catastrophes.
