European Parliament Calls on Georgia to Carry out New Reforms

The European Parliament calls on Georgia to carry out new reforms in the area of judiciary, rule of law, media pluralism and cooperation with the opposition. The President of European Parliament Jerzy Buzek stated the corresponding after the meeting with Davit Bakradze, Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia.

According to him, he wants to congratulate Georgia with the reforms which have already been implemented but would like to call on new reforms as well.

“New reforms are necessary for right inter-compatibility between Georgia and the EU,” – stated Jerzy Buzek and called on Georgia to implement reforms in the spheres like judiciary, rule of law, media pluralism and cooperation with the opposition.

According to him, all this is necessary for progress. “Economic development is impossible without it,” – stated the head of the European Parliament and emphasized that the European Parliament does not want to impose anything on Georgia. “On the contrary, we want these initiations to come from Georgian citizens and government,” – he said. 

“More compatibility between our systems is necessary for relevant cooperation,” – added Jerzy Buzek.
