Member of the Public Assembly Fined for Slogan – “Misha Will Go”

May 24, 2011

On May 16, member of the Kobuleti committee of the Public Assembly Mindia Shainidze was fined with 400 GEL by a Kobuleti district magister judge. Patrol police officers fined Shainidze for resistance.

Representatives of the Public Assembly said the demonstrators were writing slogans “Misha Will Go” on trees, rubbish bins and roads. They claim that patrol police officers detained Shainidze without any preliminary warning and explanations when he was writing the slogans.

Head of Kobuleti committee of the Public Assembly said their member was arbitrarily detained. “They did not hinder the traffic movement. Patrol police officer suddenly arrived there and detained one of our representatives; when we asked explanation they did not reply.”

The detainee shall pay the fine within one month time; though he is going to appeal against the judgment.
