Detained Opposition Supporters Are Judged At Night

May 25, 2011

The Human Rights Center reported that opposition supporters, who were detained for their political activities, were mostly judged at night.

“Our representatives have been monitoring the court hearings since May 21 but could not attend the trials of opposition supporters. The court administration did not inform them about the fixed time of the trials on opposition supporters. The court does not reply to written applications too. For example, on May 23, we requested information whether a lawyer participated in the discussion of Giorgi Piralishvili’s case; we also requested copies of the administrative case materials. In accordance to the General Administrative Code of Georgia, the Court was entitled to release the requested information immediately. Our representative got in touch with the head of the Telavi district court administration Nana Tetrauli who said the reply was not ready yet,” the representatives of the Human Rights Center said.

Nana Tetrauli confirmed that the Center had requested the public information on May 23 though they have not satisfied their request yet.
