Public Organization “Serve Georgia” Evaluates

May 31, 2011

The Council of the founders of the “Serve Georgia” published statement on May 30. The public organization imposes the responsibility for the dispersal of the May 26 peaceful demonstration on the government of Georgia. “Serve Georgia” evaluates the fact as “unbridled violence.”

Avtandil Beridze, Public Movement “Serve Georgia": “We evaluated the recent incidents as the next violence from the government. This government is unable to have human, diplomatic and democratic relations with anybody and applies to this method everywhere in any case.”

The leader of the “Serve Georgia” Murman Dumbadze was detained in Tbilisi. He was accused of disobedience and the court sentenced him to 30-day imprisonment. His lawyer Medea Vasadze said Dumbadze was ruthlessly beaten and cannot freely move. He has his left eye injured. Vasadze said Murman Dumbadze was physically and morally assaulted at the police department. Initially, the lawyer and doctor were not allowed to meet him. Currently, he is in the Telavi Pretrial Detention Setting under supervision of the Red Cross Committee.

Medea Vasadze said, allegedly the inmates of the PDS were sexually abused too. “Those people had sexual problems. Children left the PDS physically abused. They urgently need psychological rehabilitation.”

An activist and victim of the dispersal of May 26 Merab Nagervadze attended the meeting of the “Serve Georgia.”

Nagervadze said after the dispersal he sheltered the Cinema House “Rustaveli” where riot police officers beat about 300 activists. “Everybody was beating and insulting us. They took us to the police department by yellow buses from where we were released only next morning. We were oppressed and intimidated everywhere.”

According to the members of the “Serve Georgia,” about 10-15 activists from Batumi were arrested in Tbilisi.
