Radicalism and violence always entail victims, Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said in his interview with the Euronews while commenting on the 26 May developments in Tbilisi.
When the Euronews journalist quoted the human defenders, which say police used excessive force on 26 May, Saakashvili replied he was sure police acted professionally.
‘Listen to me. The EU ambassador said the government’s action was legal. If anybody says police used excessive force, it is very hard to revise; - this statement was also made by the ambassador. I want to use force least of all. We have an honorable judicial system. We are modernizing police. They might not be perfect, though they are acting more professionally now than ever. The problem is that, radicalism and violence always entail victims. When a demonstrator’s car runs over a policeman and kills him, passions arose. We are trying to calm them down. However, it is clear we need to take more efforts’, Mikheil Saakashvili said.
