Shota Utiashvili – None of the Deaths Were Caused by Police Actions

June 3, 2011

Head of the analytical department of MIA Shota Utiashvili alleges that considering that on 26 May there were few people in hospital and none of the deaths were directly or indirectly caused by police actions, in sum, the protest was broke up according to standards.

Utiashvili stated the corresponding in the program Dialogi (Dialogue) of Davit Paichadze on Public Broadcaster.

He says that MIA is satisfied by the quality of operation and professionalism of the law enforcers, though head of the analytical department doesn’t deny there were mistakes.

“We see video footages and if we find facts of violation of law, there will be relevant operations”, he says.

As for Nika Kvintradze who was found dead two days after the protest crackdown, Utiashvili alleges that the fact was media hoax.

“The person lying on the ground, as if he was Kvintradze, didn’t turn out to be him. The dead body was not found with hands tied up, while dead body is always taken from morgue to the family with hands and feet tied”, he said.

Utiashvili said that none of the families of the missing addressed MIA. He says that MIA published the list of missing people.

“We detained the people who were hitting the car at Kostava St. the drivers who passed over the policeman and Kintsvisi group of conspirators,” – he noted.
