Lasha Tordia: “Law-enforcement Officials will be Held Responsible for the Use of Excessive Force on May 26th”

June 6, 2011

According to Lasha Tordia, member of parliamentary majority and the head of Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee, the law-enforcement officials who used excessive force on May 26th will be held responsibility.

Tordia stated the following while commenting on the statement of the US Ambassador to Georgia John Bass.

“Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) will launch investigation regarding all such cases and ultimately will raise the responsibility of the relevant individuals. The investigation is underway right now whether the use of excessive force took place by the law-enforcement officials,” – noted Tordia.

Besides, the head of Human Rights Committee states that it is necessary to ascertain what kind of excessive force we are talking about.

“We have to find out whether or not the disobedience took place and whether it resulted in the use of excessive force. If there was no disobedience and they used excessive force, they will be imposed the responsibility,” – noted the deputy.

According to the US ambassador John Bass, on May 26th, there were some people at the protest rally who were looking for violence, but excessive force was used during and after the disruption of the protest.
