Courts Will Independently Decide to Allow Manifestation within 20-Meter-Distance of Its Building or Not

June 24, 2011

20-meter-distance limit has been canceled for manifestations in front of the court buildings. The parliamentary opposition and majority agreed on it and consequently, the amendments were introduced to the Law on Assembly and Manifestation.

The initial version of the draft-law prohibited assembly and manifestation within 20 meter of the court buildings. According to the agreement, the parliament members decided to allow each court to estimate restrictions for manifestations near their buildings, though the distance shall not exceed 20 meters. Thus they will avoid blocking of the building and hinder of their activities because of ongoing manifestation.

The court will make decisions on concrete cases due to current circumstances and public interest. The parliament will enact the amendments to the Law on Assembly and Manifestation at the second hearing today.
