Prosecutor’s Office Started Criminal Prosecution against Irakli Okruashvili

Chief Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia started criminal prosecution against Irakli Okruashvili, former defense minister. The prosecutor’s office spread information about it.

“On June 28, 2011 Georgian prosecutor’s office started criminal prosecution against Irakli Okruashvili. He is accused of creation and leadership of illegal formation. The crime is envisaged under Article 223 Part I of the Criminal Code of Georgia. Within the estimated term, the Georgian prosecutor’s office will appeal to the Court to choose preventive measures against the accused,” the statement of the Chief Prosecutor’s Office.

Reportedly, Counter-Intelligence Department of the Georgian MIA arrested organized criminal group whose several members were in alliance with the Georgian Party.

MIA spread operative materials and videos about the plans which the group members intended to realize at the end of May. The detainees are charged under Article 223 of the Criminal Code of Georgia that envisages punishment for the creation of illegal armed formation.

According to the MIA, they cleared up the scheme according to what Irakli Okruashvili was about to enter Georgia via Tskhinvali.
